Our luxury range of wood wick candles come with a layer of protective seeded herb paper. The seeds are provided in 4 different herbs; Basil, Oregano, Parsley and Thyme. Make sure you keep hold of this paper so you can re-cycle your metal vessel from our luxury range.
Once you have finished burning your candle, simply follow the instructions below to use the seeded paper and grow your very own herb garden.
Herb seeds require good drainage to ensure healthy growth. We recommend sourcing a small plastic or peat plant seedling pot to pop into your Hutwoods vessel before adding your seeded paper.
To ensure a good fit, use a pot no wider than 7.5cm and 8cm tall and place into the vessel before filling with potting soil. Dampen your seeded paper in water until soft and then lightly cover with remaining soil.
The seeds in our seeded paper require a little bit of care throughout the germination period. Growth success is entirely dependent on the paper being kept moist (and therefore soft) until after the seeds have germinated.
Many seeds are embedded in the thickness of the paper and if it dries and hardens, the shoots will not be able to push through. It is crucial that during the first 10 days the paper is kept damp at all times.
Germination should take 7 – 21 days. After this period, make sure you leave your pot in a location that is protected from extreme temperatures, humidity, drafts and strong sunlight.
When sprouts appear, continue to keep the paper moist but be careful not to overwater. Once sturdy herbs appear, water as needed and enjoy your herb garden!
