We use 100% natural and eco-friendly wooden wicks that are sourced from FSC-certified mills. There are many benefits to wooden wicks, the most known is the calming soft crackling sound they make, reminiscent of a log fire. They burn cleaner than cotton wicks with no carbon build up and burn slower than traditional wicks, resulting in a much longer burn time of your Hutwoods candle.

We use a 100% natural blend of soy coconut wax. This is plant based making it one of the most eco-friendly and sustainable waxes. It is composed of non-petroleum renewable resources, derived from high yield crops of coconut and soy beans. It’s a fully biodegradable wax, free from pesticides and herbicides and kosher certified. Benefits of soy coconut wax is that it produces less smoke, less soot, non-toxic and far better for the environment.

This is one of thing things we are most known for. Our fragrances are infused using natural essential oils combined with fine fragrance oils, selected for their individual characteristics. Our candles are carefully blended at melting point, so your Hutwoods candle will deliver a consistent and unmatched scent throw throughout its life span.

When lighting your candle for the first time, allow the wax to melt all the way to the sides of the jar. This will ensure a consistent and even burn.

It is also important to always trim your wick to 1/4 inch before relighting each time. This can be done by simply pinching off any black, used wick and lighting the fresh wood underneath. If the wick is too long, the flame may have difficulty staying lit. The recommended maximum burn time of a Hutwoods candle is 4 hours.

For added safety, ensure the flame is extinguished as the wick nears the base of the jar or as the wax is close to being completely melted. 

Never leave a burning candle unattended. Don’t place a burning candle near clothing, books, curtains or anything flammable. Keep candles out of the reach of children and pets. Place your candle on a stable and heat-resistant surface. Place burning candles at least 3 inches apart from one another. Please refer to our safety sticker on the bottom of each candle for further information.

Allow the wax to completely harden and then remove any larger pieces of wax. Being 100% natural and biodegradable, our wax is water soluble and therefore very easily cleaned with hot soapy water.

Our reed diffusers are a generous size, meaning that the minimum lifetime of your reed diffusers is at least 6+ months. However, depending on your environment and temperature, they are known to considerably exceed this timeframe.

When first using your reed diffuser, allow the reeds to absorb the fragrance for 15 minutes, then gently rotate them to release the aroma. To enhance the fragrance in the air, reverse the reeds as often as desired.

Our reed diffusers are slow releasing and environmentally friendly. They are considered a safe way to fragrance a room with no open flame. Our reed diffusers contain no phthalates or parabens.

During temperature changes, 100% natural coconut soy wax may occasionally release excess oil. This often happens after shipping in hot conditions and is known as ‘sweating’. This will not affect the candle, nor usually reappear after the initial burn. To remove the oil, use a paper towel to gently wipe it clean.

Hutwoods candles are all hand poured in Australia and not massed produced. Although every effort is made to ensure consistency, each candle is unique. When using natural wax, sometimes you may notice darker patches or wet spots in your vessel. This is not a fault of the candle – simply a characteristic of natural wax where it has not 100% adhered to the glass. This does not affect the candle in any way. It’s how you know it’s a completely natural wax.
